Born in Washington, D.C., Carl Bernstein attended the University of Maryland and Boston University. Working with Bob Woodward at the Washington Post, Bernstein uncovered the Watergate cover-up, which eventually led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. Together, Woodward and Bernstein won many major journalism awards, including the George Polk Memorial Award. In 1973 the Washington Post received a Pulitzer Prize for public service for Woodward and Bernstein’s work. The two journalists wrote All the President’s Men , an account of their experiences, which was published in 1974. The book was later made into a film. Bernstein and Woodward also wrote The Final Days (1976), which deals with Nixon’s last days in office.
